About Janet

My Skills

I love writing, words, and language. I am fluent in French and Spanish, having lived for years first in Mexico, then in France, and I think my awareness of language constructions and my grammar skills really developed as I deepened my understanding of those languages. I began teaching English as a foreign language while in France, and I enjoyed grappling with the particular problems English poses, its irregularity and its fascinating mix of “rules” and usage– “That’s just how we say it, there’s no good reason!”

I am fascinated with writing for the web, and recently built a blog site for a friend whose work I edit. You can see it at www.stolziespeak.com As a concerned citizen, I am part of several political action movements, and write for the Communications Committee of my local Dem party. Here’s the website I helped create: http://www.washtenawdems.org/

In my third life, I’m also a musician– I play and teach the viola da gamba, an instrument family from the Renaissance and Baroque eras, and the double bass, and contribute articles and music reviews to the https://vdgsa.org/

I live in Ann Arbor, Michigan, where I’m a member of the Ann Arbor Writer’s Group, Tornado Wine (a poetry circle), and Ann Arbor Insight Meditation.
